Social Media at its Best

For all the headaches and heartaches caused by social media, when people are at their best, social media is at its best.

The youngest son of some friends of ours in the hospital following heart surgery. There have been some complications, and the family is in a holding pattern, waiting to see how everything is going to turn out. Waiting to see if everything is going to be okay. It’s excruciating.

While there have been people up at the hospital to sit with them and wait with them, the real outpouring has been on social media from friends (and even friends of friends) who are posting their love, prayers, support and encouragement. It has provided a great source of strength for the family to know that there are so many people who care about them, who are praying and who are willing to help in any way they can.  Pastoral care via Facebook.

It’s a reminder that technology can be a great tool in reaching out to the hurting, spreading hope, organizing for action and sharing the faith.  May we use all the resources at our disposal to bring the Good News to a world in desperate need of some.
