A Sneak Peak at June Bible Boot Camp

Here is what a typical day’s study for our June Bible Boot Camp will look like. (Reminder: you will get the locations/areas for the week at the beginning of the week, so you can plan).

Place to Encounter the Word

A local Heart Association office/cardiologist office/heart hospital –ideally go inside to a waiting area, or you can just go to the parking lot of such a place.

The Word

John 14:1-3 Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.  John 14:1-13 (NRSV)

Reflection and Questions

There are all sorts of places filled with people who work to prevent and fix troubled hearts.  Prevention may include medicine, changes in diet and exercise and stress reduction techniques. Fixing may require something more dramatic.  Take a moment to imagine what it must feel like to be able to fix a human heart…the euphoria when you restore a heart to health and the trauma when you encounter a heart that is beyond repair.

Jesus is trying to prevent is disciple’s hearts from being spiritually troubled. He assures them that there is a place for them in his Father’s house, that they will definitely get to come where he is going…eventually.

What would a place filled with people working to prevent spiritually troubled hearts look like? Your local church? A counseling center? Or something else entirely?

Does the promise that Jesus has a place prepared for you soothe your heart in times of trouble? Does the promise of a heavenly tomorrow make today better or not? Why?

When your heart is troubled, where is it that you find peace?

How can you help to heal the troubled hearts of others?

After you have answered these questions–either on paper, online or in your heart, take a moment to pray for the people who labor where you are–the ones who spend their lives healing troubled hearts. Ask for God to heal your own heart and to lead and guide you in ways that you, too, can help heal troubled hearts.

Join us as we spend four weeks experiencing scripture in different spaces and places. We kick-off June 4.  Sign up today.
