Happy Diwali!

DIWALI is an annual festival of lights that symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. And even though it’s a Hindu celebration (also celebrated by Sikhs and Jains), Christians can really get behind its message.  If you’re not familiar with our scriptures, we do talk a lot about light defeating darkness.

The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness could not overcome it. John 1:5

the people who lived in the dark have seen a great light,
and a light has come upon those who lived in the region and in shadow of death. Matthew 4:16

Jesus spoke to the people again, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me won’t walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light.
On those living in a pitch-dark land, light has dawned. Isaiah 9:2

The celebration of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance is one we can all embrace.

Technically, Dawali is a five-day festival that started on Monday, but the big day is today. It’s the day when big feasts are shared with friends and family and temples are visited.

So be sure to send greetings to those who celebrate and join in rejoicing the power of light over darkness.

May light abound
and darkness depart
Wishing you a joyous season
Happy Diwali!
