Feel Good Friday #29

Every Friday, Doubting Believer brings you things to watch, listen to and read that make you smile. Because we all could use a little good news.

I don’t know if this is the story we all need right now, but it made me laugh and makes me want to inject a little more whimsy and adventure in to my life.

There’s not much that feels good about our friends and neighbors who have now missed two paychecks due to the government shut-down, but it does feel good to see how people are stepping up to help those affected.  The young man who won a lifetime supply of peanut butter is sharing. Kiss fans can have another reason to love the band.  Pets still have to be fed, and one grocery chain is helping with that. And Stephen Colbert is offering a way for caffeine lovers to help with Shut-Down mugs.   Just a good reminder that when things are awful, people can be pretty awesome.

Curmudgeon, atheist comedian Patton Oswald is (oddly enough) one of my favorite theologians…or at least humalogian. His statements in response to national tragedies, acts of violence and other atrocities are nothing less than inspiring. And now he’s shown that he might be able to out-Christian all of us.

Get some rest, have some fun, talk to God, connect with people in person and get renewed this weekend. We all have much work to do, but if we don’t take care of ourselves and tend to our souls, our ability to change the world is definitely diminished.
