A Prayer for Today
It’s a long list today, God.
Of people to lift up to you.
I know you already know,
That people are hurting
And I know that I can’t possibly name them all here
For my world and my awareness are so very small
But …
So that You know that I know that the world needs You
So that You know that I know that You listen when we call
So that others might know that they are being held in prayer
So that I can believe in something larger than whatever small change I can affect
I pray…
For caregivers of children, parents, spouses and friends with health issues and special needs
For parents who are scrambling for childcare
For those who have no idea how they’re going to pay rent
For those whose food benefits are about to run out
For those stuck at the border on the edge of something better
For families separated
For relationships in ruin
For those who cannot see beyond their own self-interest
For those who have been bamboozled by fear mongering
For those who are sick and tired of being sick and tired
For those who are grieving
For those whose grief manifests itself in anger
For those whose anger moves them to do harm
For the worn out justice warriors and the helpers who are feeling helpless.
All of these and more I lift up to you
Asking that you guide me to be your hands and feet and heart
Whenever and wherever I can.
In the name of Jesus Christ, who knows what it is to be a hurting human,
I pray.
Amen.
