We all Scream (in a good way) for Ice Cream Wednesday
My friend Greg came up with a great idea for the last Wednesday of the first month of 2021. Since the first three Wednesdays have been divisive moments for our country (we had Insurrection Wednesday, Impeachment Wednesday and then Inauguration Wednesday), the fourth Wednesday should be something that brings us all together–ice cream.
Unless you are lactose intolerant or vegan (and there are still options for you), ice cream is an almost universal comfort food. It’s cold and sweet and especially good in summer weather (which I understand it feels like in parts of our country). It’s just what you need after a rough day at work or dicey day at school. Consuming a pint of Ben and Jerry’s after a break-up has become ubiquitous–at least on television and in movies.
So plan to enjoy some ice cream on Wednesday, January 27.
You know, Jesus is like ice cream (just go with me on this). Jesus offers us comfort, too. On rough days or in difficult seasons, it is Jesus in whom we can find a peace that is longer lasting and less fattening than a pint of Chunky Monkey.
Jesus says that he gives us peace in a different way than the world does.
I leave you peace. It is my own peace I give you. I give you peace in a different way than the world does. So don’t be troubled. Don’t be afraid.
John 14:27
Maybe one of our spiritual goals should be to get to a place where turning to Jesus in times of crisis or trouble or just plain old frustration feels as good as that first lick of ice cream does when it hits our tongues? I mean, still have the ice cream, but don’t forget about Jesus.
