Arkansas Church opens Sweet House safe space for LGBTQ youth
I have a number of friends who grew up at this church and a couple who have served as pastors here. This new ministry that creates a safe space for LGBTQ youth makes my heart very glad. A reminder that suicide is the second leading cause of youth death in our country, and LGBTQ youth are three to four times more likely to die by suicide than their straight counterparts. Safe spaces like these are literally saving lives.
Broadway is Back…and in your home
Come From Away is on Apple TV. I remember when I first heard about this musical that was about the a little town in Newfoundland where planes were diverted after 9/11, I thought it sounded like an odd premise for a musical. But it is an inspiring, moving testimony to the great things regular people can do in the face to tragedy. We could all use that reminder–especially right now. On a personal note, my daughter’s high school thespian troupe won Best In Show at the Arkansas State Thespian Festival a few years back using the opening number of the show–so I’ve got the first song seared in my brain after listening to them rehearse.
