Five Bible Verses You Could Use Right Now

Regular followers of Doubting Believer know that I’m not really one to cherry pick Bible verses and toss them out as easy answers or rules for life. Individual scripture passages should be read in context to the whole and always in light of the words, work and witness of Jesus. That being said, there are, of course, some real gems contained in our scriptures that may be just what we need to hear from time to time.

Here are five verses for a time when life is hard, people are not at their best and the future is uncertain.

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. –Psalm 34:18

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. –Isaiah 43:2

Let’s not get tired of doing good, because in time we’ll have a harvest if we don’t give up.–Galatians 6:9

Everybody who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise builder who built a house on bedrock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the wind blew and beat against that house. It didn’t fall because it was firmly set on bedrock. –Matthew 7:24-25

The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. –Philippians 4:5b-7
