Every week, Doubting Believer brings you things to read, watch or listen to that are sure to make you smile. Because we all could use a little good news.
A Cookbook Revival
I love a good community cookbook. This one has been revived after a son found a copy in his deceased mother’s belongings and is now raising money to feed kids on weekends and holidays.
People Can Be Awful… and also Awesome
A small town denied funding to a local library due to a local LGBTQ group that met there–so the community raised 10 times what the library had requested from the local government. Hate has no home at this library.
Note: I try not to post “good news” stories that are really tales of societal failures. Teachers giving up their sick days to a colleague with cancer. A young man who walks 16 miles to work every day and gets a car from his employer. A garbage truck driver who provides transport and finds shelter for a 90-year-old woman. While generous people are great, the situations in which they intervened shouldn’t exist in the first place. While some might the following story as falling in this category, I’m including it here because it involves three things that I think we need more of.
- Someone paid attention to a person that most take for granted (or completely overlook) and realized something was wrong.
- That same person decided they could do something to help.
- Members of the community partnered to come up with a solution.
Also, my affinity for this story may be because it involves Dunkin Donuts. Medium Black with unsweetened hazelnut is my standard order.
Get some rest.
Do something fun.
Connect with people you love.
Talk to God.
Take radically good care of yourself. The world needs you.
