We are tired, God
We are tired of the headlines
We are tired of the news
We are tired of the angry voices
We are tired of unarmed black lives lost to guns held by white hands
We are tired of arguments over who counts as a person deserving of rights
We are tired of men telling women what to do with their bodies.
We are tired of trying to win losing battles
We are tired of hating and of being hated
What do we do with our weariness?
Lay down and dip out of life until things get better?
Turn off our news alerts and our televisions?
Blame the Republicans? The Democrats? The feminists? The fundamentalists? The immigrants? Our neighbor?
What should we pray for?
An escape to a desert island?
We call on you for help, O God. Because we’ve run out of ideas and options.
Chase away the hate in our hearts and liberate us from our fears.
Lift us out of our compassion fatigue and light the fire in our souls.
Help us to find rest in You, and then show us a way forward from this place.
